Week 1 of the 28 Day Network Challenge

February 4, 2017

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. PLEASE READ MY DISCLOSURE FOR MORE INFO.

Welcome to the first weekend of the 28 Day Network Challenge!  I have had an awesome time connecting with folks and look forward all month and beyond to expanding networks.

Before I get too far into the challenge, I am happy to report that through a networking contact, I accepted a new position within the government that I will begin on March 6th.  I am extremely excited about the opportunity as getting a new job was one of my top goals.  Thank you for all that have reached out during this time and for the encouragement.  I really appreciate it.

My Networking Accomplishments

So without further ado, here are some of the highlights from the first week of the Network Challenge.  (1) I connected two people in my network for job opportunities, and one opportunity looks very promising.  (2) On top of that, I was able to reach out to 3 friends that I hadn’t spoken with in a while and caught up.  I plan to connect with one of them in person in the next month.  (3) Finally, I have had the opportunity to do some 5-minute favors and help those who have asked me for help.  I plan to continue providing feedback for those who I haven’t gotten to yet.

So readers, how was your first week of the Network Challenge?  Have you had any great successes or failures?  Any goals over the next week?  Share your thoughts below.

Hey congrats on the new job, MSM! Best of luck to you!

I did accomplish one networking feat. I referred a friend who was looking for a job to someone who was looking to hire. Hopefully they get the position.

Thanks SRGO!!! I am super pumped and can’t wait to start on the new job in March.

That’s awesome that you’re able to refer someone in your network to a job. Can’t wait to hear if they get it 🙂

    Hi MSM,

Congratulations on the new job – fingers crossed it is everything you want, and some good prospects to help keep the savings rate up!

I already spend a fair amount of time on networking so no real update other than I do have a couple of people to connect with…

    Cheers!

I’m currently doing an MBA, so this is the type of stuff that I am working on. I contacted some people I worked on projects with in college, it was nice to hear what they are up to.

Congrats on the new gig. I’m in an interesting position at work when it comes to networking. I’ve been at my employer for ten years but my co-workers and boss are both at less then a year. I spend a lot of time introducing them as I’m sure you can imagine. I need to focus on some external Networks over the next month if I want impact on myself.

Congrats on the new job MSM. Hopefully, this opportunity is a career growth/changer for you. Most importantly, hoping that you will get more fulfillment out of this one.

For the challenge, it’s a bit slow for me recently as I am a bit more busy lately and had less time to work on my blog. However, I was reading your post at millennial money and I picked up a few SEO tips. I will work on that and will share my results.

Congrats on the new job! I hope you love it! Government jobs do have some nice benefits, too. 🙂 I’m admittedly really, really bad at networking. I’m super introverted and shy, so things like connecting with three old friends are heart-attack inducing for someone like me lol.

I’m in the same boat Mrs. Picky Pincher. I have a hard time connecting with old friends from High School that I am/was friends with on Facebook let alone trying to reach out to them on the phone or in person 🙂

I meant to comment on your post last week but time just ran away from me… but I have been taking part non the less. Weirdly, I got offered a job last week that I start on Monday (yikes!) thanks to keeping in touch with a former colleague.

I’ve accepted an invitation to a gathering for this evening that I wouldn’t usually. Getting a job also means I won’t be able to give much time to the charity I was volunteering with, but I am going to make an effort to remain in touch with them too. I am also planning on writing a linked in recommendation for a former colleague I have a lot of respect for. I know his job is likely to be at risk in a few months, so hope this will benefit him.

Great challenge! I’m an introvert too, but nothing grows in your comfort zone, right?

Congrats on starting the new job tomorrow!!! That’s super exciting and I’m sure a challenge that you’re looking forward to 🙂

I love your attitude, you’re right as an introvert we gotta push ourselves to get out of our comfort zones if we wanna stretch and grow 🙂

Congratulations on the new gig, MSM!

In terms of networking, one of my old friends reached out to me and I’ll be referring him to my company in hopes of getting him a job at where I work. It’ll be in a different office as we live in different cities now, but it’s still something!

I must confess that I’ve not done quite a lot if anything on this although it is more of a long-term thing for me to network intentionally
